Review:
Maleficent 3: The Dark Fairy delivers a powerful conclusion to the beloved fantasy saga, with Angelina Jolie once again soaringâliterally and emotionallyâin her most commanding performance yet. This third installment plunges deeper into the mystical lore of the Moors, unearthing ancient secrets, long-lost enemies, and a battle that will decide the fate of both magical and mortal realms.
After years of peace between the kingdoms, a growing shadow spreads across the landsâan ancient dark force tied to Maleficentâs origin. When strange storms erupt and creatures begin vanishing, Maleficent is forced to confront a forgotten part of herself and a race of winged fae exiled centuries ago. Leading them is Nyx, a mysterious and power-hungry fairy queen played hauntingly by Anya Taylor-Joy, who believes Maleficent betrayed their kind.
Angelina Jolie gives a performance that is fierce, regal, and layered with emotion. This time, Maleficent is not just a protectorâsheâs a warrior torn between duty and destiny. Her scenes with Elle Fanningâs Aurora, now a strong-willed queen navigating the balance of love and diplomacy, provide some of the most heartfelt moments in the film.
Richard Madden joins as a brave but conflicted knight who questions the line between good and evil, adding intrigue and tension to the evolving alliance between humans and fae.
Visually, the film is stunningâlush enchanted forests, sky-piercing battles, and magical duels wrapped in storm clouds and green fire. The climactic confrontation above the ruins of the old fae city is a visual feast, blending beauty and chaos with every beat of Maleficentâs wings.
The score swells with gothic elegance, and the script is surprisingly philosophical, exploring identity, exile, and the true cost of power.
The final scene offers both closure and the sense that fairy tales, like legends, are never truly over.
